Well… we just came back from our vacation in Oasis Cancun all inclusive resort in Mexico. We stayed in there for 8 days during the spring break 2012 from March 25 until April 2.

How did we like it in Oasis Cancun all inclusive resort? Overall, we are disappointed and frustrated. Feels like waste of money and time.

This place looks like a paradise but don’t get fooled by the look of it. All resorts look great on a professional photo.

Cancun Oasis all inclusive resort in Mexico

We saw all those terrible reviews about Oasis Cancun resort on TripAdvisor before we booked but we though they all are coming from never satisfied big time complainers and with us everything will be different. Well, it was not different and that’s the reason I’m writing this post. If I can stop a few families from going to this resort I’ll feel my mission accomplished.

BEFORE WE BOOKED THIS VACATION.

As a family we like to go on cruise vacations. We’ve been on 5 different cruise vacations before but this time decided to try something new. We did some research and decided to try Oasis Cancun all inclusive resort during the spring break time. It sounded like fun to all of us.

Main reasons for choosing Cancun Oasis resort:
- Spring break time. We really wanted to see what it is.
- Premium location of this resort.
- PitBull performance.
- Reasonable price.

We purchased the entire package for 4 people from BOOKIT.COM and it cost us about $5600 for 8 nights in Oasis Cancun resort with air tickets both ways. The transaction was smooth and we got plenty of information from BOOKIT.COM

By the way, we paid extra money for the “ocean view” room assuming it will help us to get into a better room.

We though that when you spend this kind of money on a land vacation, everything should be perfect.

GOING TO CANCUN OASIS RESORT.

We flew to Cancun from Seattle. Had one stop. The flight was smooth, nothing exited.

When we got out of the airport we started looking for a taxi. After some extensive negotiation we were able to get to our hotel for $10 per person ($40 total) for a shared van.

GETTING INTO THE ROOM. DAY 1.

That’s where all our trouble started.

This resort has 5 buildings.
The “Pyramid” building right in the center and four more building surrounding the Pyramid. The “Pyramid” is the nicest building.

The building #2 is the worst of all of them. That’s where most spring breakers are located.
- lots of drunk 20-25 year old people in the lobby
- very dirty with plastic cups and spilled alcohol everywhere
- people smoking right in the building
- enormous amount of noise everywhere
- complete chaos everywhere

We arrived to the resort at 9pm. The taxi guy took us to the “Pyramid” but after looking at our papers (printout from BOOKIT.COM) they sent us to the building #2.

We felt that something is wrong as soon as we entered this building. It looked more like a dormitory than hotel.

The check in was very quick. They gave us resort bracelets, two metal keys for the room (for 4 people) and that’s it. They didn’t explain ANYTHING. They didn’t explain where’s the room was, didn’t give any map for the resort, didn’t do anything. I guess that’s exactly what you should expect after spending almost $6000.

Very simple: Here’s your bracelet ($100 penalty if you loose it), here’s your keys ($15 penalty if you lose one). Welcome to Hell! Just in case I asked for two more keys for my kids. Nope, only 2.

It took a while to find our room but finally we got in there. It was clean but very simple. I would say a typical 3 star (max) hotel room. Before unpacking the luggage we decided to find something to eat. We went down to find any place to eat. Ohh man! Everything was closed after 11am.

Someone mentioned that we can find some food in a bar. Man! It was a mess! Full of drunk people, dirty tables, spilled alcohol, noise and NO FOOD. I think we got right into the spring breakers nest. I tried to talk to a few service guys inside the bar. They said sit down and you’ll get served. Never happened. Only after a while walking outside we found normal looking tourists and they explained that there is one place opening at 11:30. Finally, we ate some hamburgers.

Right after that we went back to our room and decided that this place is not for us. There must have been some kind of mistake. Instead of talking to useless front desk people in the building #2 we went straight to the Pyramid building. We explained what’s going on and after some hassle they allowed us to check a room in the building #4. We didn’t like it because of a big puddle of water right behind the front door. It was coming from the leaking toilet. Went back and asked for another room. After $20 in “gratuity” they were able to find another room for us. It was on the second floor and facing the roof with loudly working conditioners (not ocean view as all). It was 3am and we were so tired that decided just stay in this room. Only after we got into our beds we found another surprise. Our room had a very thin door into the neighbors room. When one of our neighbors started started coughing at night it felt like he is somewhere in our room. We woke up at 7am because our neighbors started talking.

FIGHTING FOR A BETTER ROOM. DAY 2.

We got up and went to the Pyramid building again. We decided to continue fighting for a better room. We talked to multiple people and finally one guy sent us to Amal and she very politely explained that the only way to get into a better room is paying $28 per person per day. We tried to argue that we purchased the ocean view room, not roof/working conditioners view room but it didn’t help much. Only after my wife almost started crying in front of Amal she magically found a new room. Here’s a picture I took from the balcony.

Cancun Oasis ocean view room

This room still had same “magic” door to the neighbors room but VERY LUCKILY we didn’t have any neighbors in there until the very last day.

They forgot to change something in the system and first two days they were knocking on the door day and night or simply entering the room without knocking to find out if it’s occupied or not. Only after I complained to the front desk the made some changes and it stopped.

ABOUT OUR BUILDING.

All buildings (including the Pyramid) have the worst design I have ever seen. All buildings are hollow inside and have no separation between floors and it creates so much echo inside the building. From our floor 4 we were able to see room doors located on the floor 5, 3, 2, etc… I guess it’s like bee house. Multiple cells facing one empty area – the inside of the building.

There was so much noise in the building at night that we couldn’t sleep properly. Unfortunately, they don’t give a s*** about keeping it quite at night. We heard screaming people right at the middle of the night every single night multiple times. We heard Oasis staff using Walkie-Talkies at 4am in the morning without lowering their voices. Once, they even used some loud machines to clean something. The design of the building is so bad that you can hear any noise coming from any floor.

The amount of noise inside the building at night was NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Out of 8 nights I slept relatively well only once and it happened only because I was drunk. It was more like short term coma.

ABOUT OUR ROOM.

Pictures are coming.

WHAT WE LIKED IN OASIS CANCUN ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT.

1. This resort has great location.
2. Great beach. They try very hard to keep it clean.
3. Outstanding pool. Very clean, warm, fresh water.
4. Very well maintained grounds. It’s real Oasis.
5. Variety of food (same selection every day though).
6. Friendliness of people in bars and restaurants.
7. It’s fun to watch spring breakers.
8. Daily music entertainment on the beach.

WHAT WE HATED ABOUT CANCUN ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT.

1. All those troubles at check-in.
2. Noise inside the building at night.
3. Building design.
4. Rooms.
5. Lack of information.
6. Absolutely no activities for kids age 13-18. After 18 they are allowed to drink in Mexico so they will not be bored.

It feels like everything inside the building and outside the building is managed by two different companies. It’s great when you are outside. It sucks when you are inside.

I don’t know, maybe it’s just us. Did you have any better experience in Oasis Cancun all inclusive resort? Please feel free to leave a comment.

NOTE: I’m still working on this post and I’ll be adding some more notes and pictures when I have time.

Are you collecting stamps? Did you glue a stamp in a wrong place?
Well known method of steaming the stamp is not good. By the time the paper is wet, the stamp gets wet as well.

Here’s an easy way to remove the stamp without damaging it. You’ll need a flat pan, stove and a little bit of water.
1. Place the pan on the stove on low heat.
2. Add a few drops of water.
3. Place the envelope with stamp on this drop of water. The stamp facing up.

The water will boil very fast and create steam. After a few seconds you’ll be able to remove the stamp from the envelope without any problem and it will be relatively dry. Wipe out excess water with a towel and you are done.

It’s very important to keep your car battery clean. A dirty car battery can cause problems with starting and one day you might not be able to start your car at all.

You can easily clean the battery with regular baking soda and water. This mix works great for removing the built up on the battery terminals.

- mix a little bit of baking soda and water.
- apply this solution on the battery terminals. Not too much. You’ll see it will start bubbling. The baking soda will start neutralizing the acid on the battery terminals.
- scrub the terminals with an old toothbrush.
- rinse all the residue off the battery.

That’s how you keep your car battery clean.

Dropped your cell phone or PDA in the water? You can take everything apart, put it in the box full of rice and and hope that the moister gets drawn out. And maybe in a few days you still might have a phone or use the following technique and get it back in a few minutes.

First of all, do not turn on or use your cell phone after it got wet.

Here’s a quick way to remove grease or oil stains from your jeans.

Get some baking soda and apply it over the stain on the jeans. Scrub it with a toothbrush or scrub brush. Repeat this process a few times. This will absorb the oil in the grease stain. Next take some grease soap and apply it to a sponge. Rub the grease stain with the sponge, get it soapy. Finally, wash your jeans in the washing machine with hottest settings possible. If you have some grease stain smells, include one cup of vinegar in the washing process. After that the grease stain should be gone.

That’s how you remove grease from your jeans.

Do you like drinking room temperature soda or beer? I don’t.

There is an easy way to chill soda to perfect temperature in two minutes.

Here’s how you do it:
1. Depending on how much soda you want to chill get yourself a bowl with ice and water in it.
2. Put a handful of regular salt into the ice and water mixture.
3. Load up your drinks into the bowl and steer them around for about two minutes.

This will work for about any drink in can or bottle.
